Joe Carter – Retired Welding Veteran

Hi there, I’m Joseph Carter, but most folks call me Joe. I’m excited to be a part of this website and share what I’ve learned over a long career in welding. Born and raised in the great state of Ohio, I’ve been working with metal practically my whole life, and I’ve loved every minute of it.

I’ve been welding for over 40 years, starting right out of high school. Back then, I didn’t have much more than an interest in the craft and a willingness to work hard, but that was all it took to get me hooked. I got my first taste of welding in a small auto repair shop, where I quickly discovered the satisfaction of putting something broken back together again. From there, welding became my passion—and eventually, my profession.

I started as an apprentice and I gained experience in a range of environments, from ship repair to heavy-duty structural welding. I even had a brief stint doing underwater welding, which was some of the toughest work I’ve ever done. This is where I learned to weld under pressure, in conditions that weren’t always forgiving. Those years taught me how to stay steady, safe, and focused, no matter what.

I continued my welding journey in the heavy machinery world, working on everything from large-scale industrial projects to specialized repairs. Over the years, I’ve taken on roles in shipbuilding, construction, and manufacturing, developing skills across different types of welding, like MIG, TIG, and Stick. There’s nothing like watching a perfectly laid weld bead, and I always took pride in honing my technique, one job at a time.

Now that I’m retired, I can look back and see how much this industry has changed. Welding used to be about skill and dedication, and while that’s still true, it’s also become a more challenging field to break into. That’s why I helped start this website—to pass along the knowledge I’ve gained over decades and support the next generation of welders. I believe that anyone with the right guidance can build a successful career in welding, even as things get tougher. So whether you’re just starting or looking to refine your skills, I’m here to help you.

Mark Carter – Welding Engineer

Hey, I’m Mark Carter, Joe’s nephew and a welding engineer with a passion for turning metalworking challenges into solutions. When Uncle Joe told me he wanted to start this website, I was all in, because I knew his experience—and love for the craft—could really help people. I studied welding engineering and work with cutting-edge welding technology in my day-to-day, designing and testing metal joining processes across different industries. With this site, I get the chance to share some of that knowledge and hopefully make a positive impact on the welding community.

My journey in welding started young, watching my uncle work with metal, fascinated by the precision and focus it took. That early exposure led me to study the science of welding, where I developed a deeper understanding of metallurgy, welding automation, and the physical forces at play. I love how welding blends art with science—it’s that balance that keeps me engaged. Through this website, I hope to make technical concepts easier to grasp and offer practical guidance on everything from materials selection to the latest techniques, helping welders of all backgrounds and skill levels.

Tyler James – DIY Welder & Hobbyist

Hi, I’m Tyler James, a passionate DIY welder and metal artist. My journey into welding started out of curiosity, as I was always fascinated by how raw materials could be transformed into something both functional and beautiful. Over the years, welding has become more than just a hobby for me—it’s my creative outlet, my way of making unique pieces that are both art and craftsmanship. I specialize in MIG welding and enjoy experimenting with different metals to create everything from custom furniture to outdoor sculptures.

While I don’t have formal training like some, I’ve learned by doing, getting my hands dirty and figuring things out through trial and error. That’s the beauty of welding—it’s a skill anyone can learn with the right guidance and patience. I joined this website because I believe in making welding accessible to everyone, from casual DIYers to those looking to dive into more advanced projects. Whether you’re creating a backyard fire pit or building your own metal artwork, I’m here to share my experience and help inspire others to start welding with confidence.
